Six archive documentaries looking at the rural way of life in Britain during the 1940s. 'The Grassy Shires' (1944) looks at the farmlands of Nottinghamshire. 'Fenlands' (1945) looks at the story of the fens and how farmland was created over the centuries by draining the peat bogs. 'Cornish Valley' (1944) looks at remote farms making do without electricity or gas. 'Downlands' (1947) explores from the chalk cliffs of Dover to the Cotswolds. Also included is 'Crofters' and 'North East Corner'.
