Synopsis

<p>When a bamboo cutter finds a tiny girl hidden within a bamboo shoot, he and his wife decide to raise her as their child, and name her &lsquo;Princess&rsquo;. When they discover her ability to grow at an alarming rate &ndash; like the bamboo she came from &ndash; as well as a pile of gold near the spot where she was found, they believe her to be royalty, and move her immediately from the mountains to the city.</p><p>Now thought to be a real Princess, and given the name of &lsquo;Kaguya&rsquo;, she finds herself surrounded by servants, admirers, and suitors. She is the most sought-after beauty in the land, but as things start to unravel all around her, she wants nothing more than to escape. </p><p>This charming Japanese animation is based on the folktale &lsquo;The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter&rsquo;, and features the vocal talents of Chlo&euml; Grace Moretz (<em>If I Stay</em>), James Caan (<em>Elf</em>) and Lucy Liu (<em>Kung Fu Panda</em>). <em>The Tale of the Princess Kaguya</em> has been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, and is both powerful and emotional.</p>
