French director Jacques Demy's follow-up to the classic musical 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg' is a colourful homage to the Hollywood musicals of the 1940s. Twin sisters Delphine and Solange (played by real-life sisters Catherine Deneuve and François Dorleac) run a school teaching dancing and music in the small coastal town of Rochefort - but they both dream constantly of Paris, where romance and opportunities beckon. Their mother, Yvonne (Danielle Darrieux), who runs a café in the town, is equally frustrated: she can't stop thinking about her lost love Simon (Michel Piccoli). But it isn't long before all three women find love - in the unlikeliest of places.
