Synopsis

Crime drama made for Canadian TV, based on the infamous 'trial of the century' 1946-47 murder trial of Evelyn Dick, a beautiful young would-be socialite who was arrested for the murder of her husband John after children discovered his torso in woodland. Kathleen Robertson stars as Evelyn Dick, who after being arrested for her husband's murder changes her story several times - until, when her manipulative mother, Alexandra MacLean (Brenda Fricker) becomes involved, her story changes one final time to reveal a tragic twist involving an infant son who she supposedly gave up for adoption three years earlier. After she is sentenced to hang, Dick hires attorney J.J. Robinette (Victor Garber), who appeals her case and eventually wins an acquittal - although she is sentenced to 11 years in prison for the murder of her baby son. Callum Keith Rennie co-stars as Inpector Woods, the detective assigned to investigate this complex case.
