Charlton Heston's son Fraser wrote, produced and directed this adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel, a Boy's Own adventure of derring do on the high seas. When Captain Billy Bones (Oliver Reed) arrives at Daniel Hawkins' inn, the ailing Hawkins is glad of the money the old sailor provides. It transpires that Bones has in his possession the map to some hidden treasure in the Bahamas, which he entrusts to Daniel's young son, Jim. When Bones' former shipmates, led by Long John Silver (Charlton Heston), arrive and kill him for the map, Jim escapes. With the help of a local doctor and magistrate, he sets sail for the tropics to discover Treasure Island.
