Coming-of-age drama set in Philadelphia during the Depression. Young Gennaro (Jerry Barone) needs a quarter to go and see a film in the new movie theatre that has just opened in his neighborhood. His grandfather is convinced that this is the day he is going to die, and so tells Gennaro that he can have the quarter after he is dead. Not believing him, Gennaro sets off across the city to find a quarter of his own, and it is only after an unsuccessful day that he accepts his grandfather's offer - to pass on a message to a woman he wronged many years before, and to ask for her forgiveness. After Gennaro completes this task, everyone in the neighborhood is shocked to find that the grandfather's prediction was correct, and that after receiving this woman's forgiveness, he is now able to pass away.
