Synopsis

Tony Curtis introduces this classic melodrama. In a small Sicilian fishing village, passions and tempers are rising to the boil. The community is ruled unofficially by menacing overlord Matteo Brigante (Yves Montand). Amoral serving girl Marietta (Gina Lollobrigida) has various men lusting after her, one of whom is a good-hearted engineer (Marcello Mastroianni).
