Kate Beckinsale slips back into her skintight rubber outfit for this sequel which picks up immediately where the first "Underworld" left off. But if you can't remember how the original finished, fret not because we get a handy recap within the first ten minutes of this dark and violent movie. The basic plot sees Beckinsale's nightwalker Selene on the run with human / werewolf hybrid Michael (Scott Speedman). And to make matters worse for them, Marcus (Michael Sheen) - the father of all vampires - is hot on their trail because only Selene knows the location of the tomb that imprisons his brother William - who just happens to be the original werewolf - and Marcus is eager for a family reunion.The first "Underworld" movie proved to be a bit of an unexpected hit back in 2003 thanks to its mix of gothic horror and "Matrix" style action so fans should be pleased to hear that this follow-up deviates little from the template. But the main difference this time is that director Len Wiseman has obviously been given a lot more money to play with and it shows as the action is bigger and the effects are more impressive as human faces stretch into those of bloodthirsty beasts. And speaking of blood, it's here by the bucket load as Wiseman ups the gore ante considerably.Plot and performance wise "Underworld Evolution" is nothing to write home about - the only highlight is Derek Jacobi hamming it up as a new addition to the series - but ultimately that's not what this movie is about. It's about the style and action that drew punters in first time round - and fortunately this sequel more than delivers in those departments.

googleTrackerHelper.doTrackPage( '/'Underworld-Evolution-film_options~14657'/Reviews/ViewAll/1' );"}
