From first-time director Stuart Hazeldine comes "Exam" - the film that is part intelligent thriller and part The Apprentice for sadists. If you thought Sir Alan's show brought out the very worst in over-competitive, obsequious candidates, "Exam" shows you just how far they will go.Eight talented candidates have made it through to the final stage in the selection process for a mysterious, but powerful company. They enter a windowless room and are told by an invigilator that they have 80 minutes to answer a simple question. He outlines the rules, which they must obey or be disqualified: they must not spoil their papers, speak to him or the guard and must not leave the room. However, when the candidates turn over their papers to find that they are blank, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary exam. When one candidate is immediately ejected for writing on her paper about why the company should hire her, the remaining seven candidates realise that they must work together to unlock what the real question is. They each give themselves names based on colour, with White (Luke Mably) adopting the role of the group's unofficial leader. As the clock ticks down, the group's hidden prejudices and backgrounds are revealed and another question arises: how far will they go to get the job?"Exam" is a terrifically entertaining and challenging film that will undoubtedly send deserved plaudits Hazeldine's way. As the job market is still feeling the effects of the recession and the popularity of shows like "The Apprentice" remains strong, "Exam" acts like a zeitgeist for today's Britain. Meanwhile, the claustrophobia and intensity of the film stay strong throughout with the whole thing taking place within the four walls. The performances from the relatively unknown cast are also impressive, with Mably, in particular, putting in a memorable turn as the loutish White. "Exam" is not flawless, however, and, inevitably, some will find the ending irritating. Yet, there are few films still trying to keep the audience guessing, while telling them something interesting about the state of the world. "Exam" definitely passes with flying colours.

googleTrackerHelper.doTrackPage( '/'Exam-film_options~22109'/Reviews/ViewAll/1' );"}
