Courage isn't a word often associated with Hollywood; with studios refusing to take chances and churning out endless comic book adaptations, sequels and remakes, it can often seem that we've seen it all before. Well, here is something we haven't.James Franco plays 27-year-old mountain climber Aron Ralston, a cocky, athletic young adrenaline junkie who heads to Moab, Utah for a solo canyoneering trip. After spending a few hours exploring the canyons with two young women he meets, Aron pursues his own course. While traversing an isolated canyon, Aron falls, trapping his arm under a boulder. Unable to free himself and with seemingly no way to escape, Aron begins his 127-hour long ordeal before he is forced to hack through his arm using a multi-tool knife.It takes a brave director to tell this story and they don't make them braver than Danny Boyle. After the Oscar-laden Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle could have done anything, but he chose to make a film that was incredibly difficult to shoot, to sell to studios and might have been considerably less entertaining in hands not as skilled as his. 127 Hours is a triumph on an epic scale; it shows the story of the limits of human endurance, the power of hope and one man's indefatigable will to survive. With this performance James Franco confirms his rightful place in the Hollywood elite. Consistently regarded as one of the best up and coming leading men around, Franco has now arrived. He captures Aron's enthusiasm and energy perfectly in the beginning while his emotional journey through the course of his entrapment is heartbreaking. In one of the film's most outstanding moments, Aron videotapes himself pretending to be a on a chat show where his black humour subsides to reveal the full scale of his predicament; his crestfallen face at that point is a cinematic achievement in its own right. This is a story of courage that is itself a courageous statement of the power that films can still wield over an audience.

googleTrackerHelper.doTrackPage( '/'127-Hours-film_options~25624'/Reviews/ViewAll/1' );"}
