Season 1 (1979)

Opening three episodes of the cult Seventies action series plus a bonus episode from the 13 missing episodes that have never been seen on UK TV. In the first episode, 'Monkey Goes Wild About Heaven', King Monkey (Masaaki Sakai) disgraces himself after being summoned to Heaven. He and two officials get into an argument and end up being sent back to Earth as a punishment - Monkey is imprisoned under a mountain, while the others are transformed into a pig monster, Pigsy (Toshiyuki Nishida), and a water monster, Sandy (Shiro Kishibe). 'Monkey Turns Nursemaid' sees Monkey set free in order to help holy man Tripitaka (Masako Natsume) on his quest to save the world. In 'The Great Journey Begins', Monkey protects Tripitaka against both Pigsy and Sandy, both of whom end up joining them on their journey. The bonus episode 'You Win Some, You Lose Some' has English subtitles.

Season 2 (1979)

Episodes 4-6 of the cult Seventies action series, plus a bonus episode from the 13 missing episodes that have never been seen on UK TV. In 'Monkey Swallows the Universe', Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy must protect Tripitaka from the demonic Golden Horn and his wife. 'The Power of Youth' sees Tripitaka kidnapped by the immature King of Youth. In 'Even Monsters Can Be People', Tripitaka punishes Monkey by sending him away when he thinks his protector has slain an innocent girl and her parents. However, Monkey's victims were in fact demons disguised as humans! The bonus episode 'Pigsy Learns a Lesson' has English subtitles.

Season 3 (1979)

'The Beginning of Wisdom' sees Pigsy offering to sacrifice himself to save a village from a terrible drought. In 'Pigsy Woos a Widow', the porcine Casanova turns the charm on a pretty widow, who, in turn, is infatuated by Tripitaka. In 'What Monkey Calls the Dog-Woman', Monkey discovers the true intentions of a group of bandits, whilst Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy are terrorised by a dog-woman innkeeper. The bonus episode 'The Land With Two Suns' has English subtitles.

Season 4 (1979)

In 'Pigsy's in the Well' Tripitaka and his three disciples set out to prove that the man ruling as king of Cickrow is in fact a murderous magician imposter. 'The Difference Between Night and Day' sees Monkey rendered powerless when he falls in love with a pretty young girl, while Pigsy defects to join the evil creatures of the night. 'Pearls Before Swine' has Monkey and company promise to help the inhabitants of a land ruled by three evil immortals. The bonus episode - 'The House of the Evil Spirit' - is presented with English subtitles.

In 'The Minx and the Slug' Pigsy disguises himself as the slug monster husband of the beautiful Hai-Min. 'Catfish, Saint and Shape-Changer' sees the quartet of pilgrims divided by the revelation that one of their number is a shape-changing imposter. In 'Monkey Meets the Demon Digger' Monkey is dismissed by Tripitaka after using his magic skills to speed up the digging of a mountain tunnel. In 'The Most Monstrous Monster' the King of Unicorns attempts to steal Monkey's magic staff as a present for his sweetheart Chun-Shou's spoilt son. 'Truth and the Grey Gloves Devil' sees Pigsy captured when the pilgrims arrive at a village destroyed by the Grey Gloves Demon. In 'Land for the Locusts' Monkey attempts to save a village being terrorised by a plague of locusts. The bonus episode - 'The Tormented King' - is presented with English subtitles.

Season 7 (1979)

Episodes 19 to 21 from the cult Japanese fantasy series plus a bonus episode from the missing 13 that have never been shown on UK television. In 'Vampire Master' Tripitaka and his disciples are invited to stay at the Kingdom of Buddha's Law by the Prime Minister. Ill fortune strikes when Tripitaka falls seriously ill with Tibetan Fever, while Pigsy goes in search of a murdering vampire. 'Outrageous Coincidences' sees the pilgrims forced to seek shelter from a blizzard in a mountain cave. Monkey tricks Pigsy into sacrificing himself and so providing food for the ailing Tripitaka, who is consequently ridden with guilt over having eaten his swinish follower. To Monkey and Sandy's consternation, Tripitaka now begins to take on several of Pigsy's less appealing characteristics! 'Pigsy, King and God' has Pigsy welcomed as a deity when the pilgrims arrive at the Kingdom of Red Hog, while Tripitaka discovers that the current king is in fact a disguised demon bent on wedding the innocent Princess Green Lotus. The bonus episode - 'Between Heaven and Hell' - is presented with English subtitles.

Season 8 (1979)

In 'Village of the Undead' Pigsy and Sandy fall foul of a demon and his witch companions when the pilgrims venture into a deserted village. 'Two Little Blessings' sees the transformed Yu-Lee attempting to trick Tripitaka into drinking the water of fertility; however, when Pigsy and Sandy drink the water by mistake it is they who become pregnant! 'The Fires of Jealousy' has Monkey attempt to get hold of the Queen of Fire's fan so that the pilgrims can make their way past the volcano that blocks their past. But before he can get the fan, the magical primate must sort out some marital disharmony between the queen and her errant husband, the Spirit of the Water Buffaloes. The bonus episode - 'Better the Demon You Know' - is presented with English subtitles.

Season 10 (1979)

'The Foolish Philosopher' sees the pilgrims coming to the aid of a snobby princess who has been kidnapped by an amorous but common fish monster. 'Who Am I?' has the group lose their memories after eating some enchanted mushrooms, and Monkey ends up joining a villainous band of outlaws. Season 11 (1979)

In 'Keep on Dancing', a married human woman whose Buddhist dance offends Tripitaka falls foul of an amorous goblin who has fallen in love with her. 'Give and Take' sees Pigsy turning vampire hunter in order to raise money to cure a blind girl he has become fond of. In 'Such a Nice Monster', a monster who only wants to be liked dresses up as a puppy dog, but only succeeds in becoming more terrifying. Tripitaka attempts to help by ordering his disciples to befriend the creature.

Season 13 (1979)

Final three episodes from the cult Japanese fantasy series plus a bonus episode from the missing 13 that have never been shown on UK television. In 'Pretty as a Picture', Tripitaka is tricked by a goddess who is trapped in a tapestry into taking her place. 'Mothers' sees the disciples taking on an evil wasp witch who kidnaps children and takes them to her poison mountain. In 'At the Top of the Mountain', Monkey flies back to China after Tripitaka dreams that his mother is dying. The Great Sage discovers that the lady in question is indeed at death's door, but decides to keep the information from Tripitaka so as not to distract him from the journey to India.
