Season 1 (2014)

For the first series Lynley and Havers head for the Scottish Highlands to investigate the death of a respected playwright. Their next case finds them visiting Cambridge to look into the murder of a respected lecturer's deaf daughter. After a post-mortem reveals the victim was pregnant, the detectives gradually build a portrait of a promiscuous and playful woman with many admirers. The final story sees Lynley and Havers investigating the poisoning of a Lancashire vicar. At first it appears to be a tragic accident until they delve into his past and discover a sinister motive for murder. Guest stars in series one include Bill Nighy, Martin Jarvis, Ronald Pickup, James McAvoy, Tim Pigott-Smith, Cherie Lunghi and Pippa Haywood.

Season 2 (2014)

The drama returned to BBC One in 2003 with four new episodes for series two. The opening case for Lynley and Havers sees them investigating the murder of a famous cricketer. They are forced to break all the rules in a desperate attempt to lure the killer into the open. The second case finds the detectives visiting Buckinghamshire to probe the death of a radical left-wing cabinet minister's illegitimate daughter. They team up with a local police constable and make good headway until the disappearance of a child complicates matters. In the third story, Lynley returns to his ancestral home to celebrate his engagement, but a murder in a nearby village provides him with a temporary distraction. The final case in the series plunges Lynley and Havers into a murky world of illicit sexuality, racial tension and family loyalties. Guest stars in the series include Phyllis Logan, Sophie Okonedo, Peter Egan, Saeed Jaffrey and Amita Dhiri.

Season 3 (2004)

The third series sees newly demoted Havers joining Lynley on a double murder investigation. Two separate lines of inquiry lead them into a murky world of deception, corruption and prostitution in their bid to discover the killer's identity. The second case sees the duo investigating the death of a woman killed in a hit-and-run incident. Suspicion falls on the man who found her body, but he denies ever having met her. In the third story, Havers is reinstated to the rank of Detective Sergeant and she goes undercover after a murder at an exclusive club. The final instalment sees Lynley's wife, Helen, dabbling in her husband's latest case, but her previous involvement with the victim unwittingly puts her in the firing line. Guest stars in the series include Timothy West, Simon Williams, Jenny Agutter, Jemma Redgrave and Barbara Flynn.

The complete fourth series of the BBC detective drama starring Nathaniel Parker as DI Thomas Lynley and Sharon Small as his partner DS Barbara Havers. Lynley is agitated and tense after the failure of his marriage and Havers is recuperating from a shooting incident. Together they investigate murders in a stable, a small secretive village, Smithfield Meat Market and even The House of Lords.
