Elia Kazan directs this classic film noir starring Dana Andrews and Jane Wyatt. When a well-known Catholic priest is murdered by a single gunshot to the head in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut, conflicting witness accounts of the evening leave the police without a prime suspect. A week after the murder a shopkeeper is picked up by police for acting suspiciously. When the policeman searches the man at the station he finds a .32-caliber revolver on him, exactly the same kind of gun used to kill the priest. Would a humble trader really commit first-degree murder? It's left to State Attorney Henry Harvey (Andrews) to prove his innocence.
