Cecil B. DeMille directs this 1934 Hollywood adaptation of the life of the Egyptian Pharaoh. Cleopatra has become an almost legendary historical figure, known for her strategic and passionate dalliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Claudette Colbert plays the role of Cleopatra, who finds herself, in 48 BC, in need of a powerful protector to safeguard her from an Egyptian rebellion. Enter Caesar (Warren William), leader of the most powerful empire in history, who she beguiles until his untimely death. Her affair with Mark Antony (Henry Wilcoxon) is arguably even more passionate, though seems doomed to end in tragedy...
