Tyrus Raymond Cobb (Tommy Lee Jones) was the greatest baseball player of all time. But thirty-five years after making history he is crippled with disease and old age. He then decides, before it is too late, to tell his life story to a journalist. The journalist soon discovers that he has become a power-crazy, woman hating tyrant. This leaves him with a dilemma - should he write the truth about this man or maintain the myth that he was a national hero who just suffered an incurable illness.
