A double bill with a winter theme. 'Cool Runnings' (1993) is based on a real scenario from the 1988 Olympics. This comedy focuses on the trials and tribulations of the first ever Jamaican bob-sled team and their coach (John Candy). Derice Bannock (Leon) is due to qualify for Jamaica's track team but due to an accident his hopes are dashed. He finds out that a gold-medallist lives in Jamaica, former US resident and bob-sled champion Irv Blitzer (Candy) and persuades him to coach a team for entry into the 1988 Olympics. However, the team Bannock puts together has never sat in a bob-sled let alone seen snow. In 'Snow Dogs' (2002), Miami dentist Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr) only learns that he is adopted when he receives word that his biological mother, a resident of Alaska, has died and named him in the will. Shocked and surprised, Ted travels north to claim his inheritance, which includes a set of seven Siberian huskies who have been trained as a sled team. When he then gets an offer from crusty mountain man Thunder Jack (James Coburn) to buy the dogs for the upcoming Arctic Challenge Sled Dog Race, Ted decides to stay behind and discover his roots by learning to race the dogs himself.
