Classic film noir starring Victor Mature and Richard Conte. Cop killer Martin Rome (Conte) is recuperating in hospital after a shoot-out when he is approached by corrupt lawyer W.A. Niles (Berry Kroeger) and asked to confess to another crime to absolve Niles' client of any blame. The attorney claims that Rome and his wife Teena (Debra Paget) were involved in a jewel heist which left a woman dead, forcing police Lt. Candella (Mature) to investigate the allegations. But the lieutenant's task is complicated by his friendship with Rome's family, having grown up with the criminal who is now determined to prove his innocence.
