1970s racial drama starring Richard Roundtree. A firefighter dies in a New York building after it is set ablaze causing his colleagues at the fire department to place the blame on the rising black community in the area. When the new space at the all-white firehouse is then filled by Shelly Forsythe (Roundtree), a black man, he is forced to contend with the racism and hostility that pervade his new workplace.
