World War II thriller written and directed by Billy Wilder. After a major defeat to Erwin Rommel (Erich von Stroheim)'s Afrika Korps, Corporal John Bramble (Franchot Tone) becomes the lone survivor of his British tank crew. Unfortunately for him, the first hotel he stumbles into along the North African desert is being taken over by German soldiers to be used as headquarters for Rommel and his team. In order to protect his identity from the enemy, Bramble poses as a valued German spy and learns he is soon to be sent to Cairo. The corporal tries to use his assumed position to gain information on Rommel's top secret plans involving hidden supply dumps, but will Bramble be able to relay the intelligence back to his superiors and make it out of Rommel's headquarters alive?
