In 1999, policeman John Sullivan (Jim Caviezel) sets up his late father's ham radio - only to make contact with his dad, Frank (Dennis Quaid), who is also on the radio thirty years earlier! John tells Frank, a firefighter, that he is going to die in a blaze the next day, and armed with this warning Frank manages to survive. This, however sets off a new chain of events in which John's mother, Julia (Elizabeth Mitchell), is to fall prey to a serial killer. Although separated by three decades, father and son now have to work together to discover the killer's identity and so save Julia's life.
