In Vilnius in 1942, the Nazis annihilated 55,000 Jews and squeezed the 15,000 survivors into a seven-block ghetto. The twenty-two year old sadistic commander Kittel is assigned to administrate the ghetto in Lithuania's capital, becoming the master of life and death. When he finds the gorgeous Hayyah sneaking in contraband, he sentences her to death; however when he is told she used to be a singer, he activates the old theatre and promotes shows in the ghetto.
