Horse Money Film Poster

Portuguese film-maker Pedro Costa writes and directs this drama chronicling the real-life inhabitants of a Lisbon slum. Costa continues filming the former residents of Fontainhas, as he has done for two decades, and reunites with retired labourer Ventura who emigrated from the former Portuguese colony of Cape Verde in the early 1970s and has over the years become a father figure of sorts to an array of displaced and disenfranchised young people in and around the slum. Now in hospital, Ventura reconnects with Vitalina Varela, who has recently returned to Lisbon for her husband's funeral.
