Drama about a young girl who gets married in the 1960s, but neglects to tell her husband she is of biracial heritage. Bernice Lee (Sonya Wilde) is a light-skinned African American, but is dismissed as a liar by those she tells of her roots. After trying and failing to be herself, she moves away and assumes a new identity as white girl Lila Brownell. On the plane to New York City, she meets her perfect man, Rick Leyton (James Franciscus), and consequently they get married and start a new life. However, things turn complicated when Bernice falls pregnant, and she becomes increasingly anxious that the imminent birth of her child could give her secret away.
