Presented by Michael Wood, this BBC documentary series explores the nature and the possible reality of four of mankind's most enduring myths. In an epic journey from the Tibetan mountains to the coast of Ireland, Wood examines in detail why these stories have lasted so long and why they continue to enthral today. He starts with the legend of Shangri-La, the lost civilisation hidden in the mountains of the Himalayas, and then continues with the Biblical story of the Queen of Sheba. Revered even today by the Ethiopians as the founder of their country, Wood evaluates the evidence of her existence and examines the links between this story and the Ark of the Covenant. In the third part Wood travels to Greece and the Black Sea to look at perhaps the oldest myth of all: the legend of Jason and the Golden Fleece. Finally, he delves into the myriad stories about the Holy Grail, and examines the links between the grail and King Arthur.
