Instant Dreams Film Poster

In this dazzling visual essay about the rise, fall and rebirth of the Polaroid, director Willem Baptist explores the genius of Edwin H. Land, the inventor of the beloved instant camera, and introduces us to a number of enthusiasts with a special connection to the format. Among them are former Polaroid employee Stephen Herchen, who tries to unravel the secret of the lost chemical formula; German artist Stefanie Schneider, who heads out on a shoot in the desert with the last of her original Polaroid stock; and New York Magazine editor Christopher Bonanos, who wrote a book about Polaroid’s history and tries to capture his relationship with his son with his instant camera. In his or her way, each strives to keep the instant dream alive.
