European Premiere We're delighted to welcome the director and producer of Love, Gilda, Lisa D’Apolito in conversation with Rebecca Nicole Williams, aka The Celluloid Sorceress, via Skype after the film. Director Lisa D’Apolito’s acclaimed documentary on the tragically short life and hilarious career of Gilda Radner, the first superstar of Saturday Night Live and a comedy icon. With unprecedented access to recently discovered audio tapes D’Apolito presents a vivid and loving portrait using Gilda’s own words and voice. Weaving together interviews with friends (including Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman and Martin Short) and rare home movies LOVE, GILDA covers Gilda’s life from her childhood in Detroit to her untimely death from ovarian cancer in 1989 aged just 42. Featuring readings from Gilda’s diaries by modern-day comedians she inspired (including Bill Hader, Amy Poehler and Melissa McCarthy), this inspirational story of a female icon and comedy trailblazer was an instant hit when it opened the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. In January and February 2019 we are celebrating the life of Gilda Radner with We Love Gilda!, a season of her best-known films. See listings for details.
