Mo' Better Blues Film Poster

Spike Lee's fourth feature concerns a handsome and accomplished jazz trumpeter, Bleek Gilliam (Denzel Washington), who divides his spare time between an aspiring jazz vocalist, Clarke (Cynda Williams), and Indigo (Joie Lee), a down to earth school teacher. This love triangle provides the focus for the complex interweaving of racial and gender issues which characterises Lee's work. Soundtrack performed by The Branford Marsalis Quartet, and classics from Coltrane, Ornette, and Miles Davis.
