Marianne Elliott directs the second of this two-part National Theatre production which looks at homosexuality and the AIDS epidemic in America in the mid-1980s. Set in New York, the second part of the play picks up the story in 1985 as Prior Walter (Andrew Garfield)'s condition worsens and the AIDS takes over his body. When he receives a message, in the form of a hallucination, from an angel telling him that mankind, through progression, is ruining Earth and that Heaven is deteriorating as a consequence, the angel tells Prior to give a message to mankind to stop all progress in an attempt to restore Heaven.
