Synopsis

Jonathan Munby directs this production of Shakespeare's tragedy performed live at the Duke of York's Theatre in London. Deciding to give up his kingdom to his three daughters, King Lear (Ian McKellen) chooses to split his lands between them according to their love for him. When one daughter protests at having to declare her love, Lear foolishly cuts her off and is left at the mercy of her two, power-hungry sisters, who are all too keen to seize power for themselves.
