Directors Leo Hurwitz and Paul Strand use actors including Howard Da Silva and Art Smith to recreate actual events which took place during the Depression of the 1930s in an attempt to effect social change: trade union supporters are tarred and feathered by the Ku Klux Klan, while sharecroppers are slaughtered by sheriff's deputies after demanding a living wage. Paul Robeson provides the commentary.
