"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take any more!" Such is the mantra of news anchor Peter Finch whose promise to kill himself on air sends ratings through the roof. In the hands of director Sidney Lumet and Oscar-winners Finch (who won posthumously) and Faye Dunaway (as an TV newsroom exec), Paddy Chayefsky's razor-sharp script exposes a media culture that is as intoxicating and inescapable as it is out of control. William Holden co-stars as the network boss while Beatrice Straight was named Best Supporting Actress as his wife - despite appearing in only one scene. Satire rarely bites this hard.
