American thriller based on the two-character play by David Mamet in which a male professor and a female student end up in an escalating and tense situation. John (William H. Macy), the university professor, comes to the aid of his student, Carol (Debra Eisenstadt), when she explains that she is struggling to understand his class materials. Promising to help Carol in her frustrations, he promises her an A result on the grounds that she visit him to go over the material on a one-to-one basis. Misunderstanding the situation, Carol complains to the tenure committee that John has been sexist and vulgar in his teachings which threatens his upcoming grant of tenure. Terrified of losing this opportunity, John becomes increasingly angry as Carol begins to further misinterpret his actions. When an allegation of sexual assault is made, the two sides reach an ultimate conclusion as both parties begin to question their actions.
