A riot of competing animation techniques, flapper-era jazz tunes and pure heartbreak. Artist Nina Paley mixes the story of Rama and Sita, from the Sanskrit epic the Ramayana, with episodes from her own life, where she is spurned by a callous, globetrotting husband. Annette Hanshaw’s 1920s vocals and striking ‘vector graphic’ animation provide showstopping moments, and shadow puppets, something called ‘Squigglevision’ and an homage to eighteenth-century Rajput paintings are offset by a chorus of disembodied Indian voices who pass droll comment on everything. A unique family experience - seats are limited so book promptly!
