Such A Long Journey Film Poster

In 1971 Bombay, the country is on the verge of war with Pakistan. Bank clerk Gustad Noble's (Roshan Seth) problems are more parochial, however; his rebellious son Sohrab is on the verge of leaving home, his daughter has malaria, and his increasingly estranged wife, Dilnavaz (Soni Razdan), seeks solace in the black arts practised by a neighbour in their apartment block. As if all this wasn't enough, Gustad's long-missing friend Jimmy Bilimoria suddenly gets in touch, desperate for money. Gustad reluctantly agrees to collect the required funds from Jimmy's shady contact Ghulam (Om Puri), who becomes threatening when Gustad refuses to transfer the money at work via an illegal bank account.
