Synopsis

It is Justice Joseph Kirkland's (Andy Garcia) first day in the US Supreme Court and his first case involves a young woman who has had an abortion and is being convicted for the murder of her unborn child. With his colleagues locked in debate, the responsibility for the verdict falls upon Kirkland - he has the deciding vote. Deciding to meet with political organisations both for and against abortion, Kirkland faces a difficult task as he tries to ensure that both justice and conscience are served.
