Philip Dunne directs this 1950s drama starring Diane Varsi as a young woman reflecting on her father's life. At the funeral of her father, Joe Chapin (Gary Cooper), Ann (Varsi) explores his final years through a series of flashbacks. Though happy by the superficial standards of society, with a wife, children and a successful career as a lawyer, Joe was never quite good enough for his ambitious other half Edith (Geraldine Fitzgerald) and suffered as a result. Dismayed to realise just how unhappy her father was at home, Ann discovers an unexpected ray of light in his life...
