Director Linshan Zhao's historical action drama focuses on two assassination attempts on the life of a prominent Chinese warlord. Set in the late 210s, shortly before the fall of the Han Dynasty, the story follows the later years of Cao Cao (Yun-Fat Chow), a fearsome warlord who over previous decades has gained complete domination of his rivals. But unknown to Cao Cao, a group of his enemies have been plotting against him for years, recruiting the children of his dead opponents and training them as assassins. As the year 221 begins, two of the now fully grown children, Lingju (Yifei Liu) and Mu Shun (Hiroshi Tamaki), travel to Cao Cao's court to fulfil their destinies...
