The Best of Men Film Poster

British made-for-TV drama that sets out to bring to life the story of the origins of the Paralympic Games. When Dr Ludwig Guttmann (Eddie Marsan), a medical professional in flight from Nazi Germany, arrives at Stoke Mandeville hospital in 1944 he is appalled to find that the disabled soldiers in the wards have more-or-less been written off. With his brusque and uncompromising manner, Ludwig sets about devising a programme of sports and other activities that the men can take part in - transforming the lives of his patients and, in the longer term, the overall approach taken to the care of paraplegics.
