Chilean director Esteban Larraín helms this tale of a precocious child's growth from orphan to pseudo-prophet in the Pinochet era. Inspired by a true story, the film finds Miguel Angel (Sebastián Ayala) living on the streets of Chile. Through telling others of his contact with the Virgin Mary - who apparently told him to pray for the health of the nation's president, General Augusto Pinochet - Miguel quickly attains cult status. Aided by the ruling regime, which recognises the positive publicity he can bring them, Miguel is soon rechristened Michelangelo and journeys around the nation giving sermons in luxury. However, with power comes scrutiny and the church despatch a priest, Father Ruiz Tagle (Patricio Contreras), to investigate Michelangelo's divine claims...
