1967 French comedy/drama directed by Louis Malle. After his plans to marry his cousin Charlotte (Genevieve Bujold) are ruined by his once-rich uncle (Christian Lude), Georges Randal (Jean-Paul Belmondo) sets out to gain revenge. Having lost a fortune, the uncle plans to recoup his money by marrying Charlotte to a rich neighbour. Georges, however, has other ideas and decides to steal Charlotte's fiancee's family jewels. Finding the excitement of the robbery intoxicating, Georges turns to a life of crime, stealing from the bourgeois families who used to feature so prominently in his previous existence in the Paris of the early 20th century.
