The life of a Welsh miner can, at best, be described as hard, dangerous and unrelenting. Yet there was a special character in the pit towns that made them different from other industrial settlements elsewhere in the United Kingdom. Valley societies were stable and safe places to live with an instinctive democracy and cohesion of classes, where individuals were respected for themselves and their own personal qualities. Featuring extensive intevriews with current and ex-miners, period imagery and archive footage, this programme delves into the often humorous but always proud history of Welsh mining.
