Abu Shukri moves his family away from their beloved hometown to a remote valley, completely removed from society. While Abu's wife and two daughters remain in the valley, burning wood to make charcoal, which Abu sells in a nearby village, his son attends the local school. When Abu decides to build a pipeline to bring fresh water to the homestead, the family develops a newfound taste from freedom, with tragic consequences.
