Darkly comic drama adapted from the award-winning novel by South African writer Marlene van Niekerk. It is 1994 and South Africa's first free election is due to take place in a few days' time - the same day as Lambert Benade (Eduan van Jaarsveldt)'s 21st birthday. Along with his terminally dysfunctional family and the other residents of the white trash Johannesburg suburb of Triomf, Lambert is not looking forward to the outcome of the election. A black family have already moved in, and Lambert's acquaintance Sonny (Obed Baloi) is poised to reclaim his stolen family land, on which the Benades' house is built. Then Lambert discovers that the 'dream girl' his Uncle Treppie (Lionel Newton) has introduced him to is in fact a prostitute. Can life get any worse?
