As George Hearst threatens to ruin everything that has been established in Deadwood, Swearengen chooses Adams to be his deputy in his dealings with the ruthless mining baron. Harry is persuaded by Nuttall to start a fire-wagon rental business, Langrishe comes up against competition in buying Chez Ami, and Alma Garrett opens the town's first bank amid as much fanfare as the inhabitants can muster.
Following the opening of the bank, Alma charms Merrick into endorsing her liquidity, and it isn't long before she reverts to her old ways. Swearengen tries to figure out Hearst's intentions as he finally finds a use for Farnum. Meanwhile, two more actors arrive in town to be reunited with Langrishe as the troupe prepares to transform Chez Ami into a theatre. Ian McShane stars.
