An explosion at an apartment building brings navy officer Terence Keith to the team's attention and it transpires he had been on medication for anxiety, a condition that had led to him being ejected from a pilot's training course. A woman is found murdered and Gibbs and McGee are called in when she is discovered to be carrying ID bearing the name Sgt Patricia Moreno, a US marine known to have died several years earlier. An internal security breach forces NCIS to go into lockdown when a covert listening device is found in a pen belonging to Secretary of the Navy Sarah Porter. The team is called in to investigate when marine corporal Flegman is found shot to death, and a phone leads them to a hotel room where Gibbs awkwardly stumbles upon his ex-wife Diane Sterling and her FBI agent ex-husband TC Fornell. She had been attempting to call her boyfriend Eddie to break up with him, but somehow Flegman had taken possession of his phone. The team tracks down Eddie's car and discovers a clown nose along with traces of blood and he quickly becomes the prime suspect.
The team investigates when a mysterious, fast-spreading illness strikes children from military families. While Gibbs tries to determine the cause, Abby and Jimmy partner with the Naval Medical Research Centre in the hope of delivering a cure before the holidays. Mark Harmon stars.

Director Vance charges DiNozzo with a special assignment to go to France, locate Admiral Kendall's wayward daughter Amanda and bring her home. Arriving in Marseille, Tony immediately heads to the local NCIS office, only to find five dead agents. Gibbs travels to his home town after hearing news of his father's death, while the team investigates whether a fire on a US Navy ship was accidental or planned. The vessel served as prison to several members of the Brotherhood of Doubt terrorist group, whom Gibbs was responsible for catching. After the blaze, two of those members are missing. Tony argues that Gibbs would want to know, but Vance does not want him disturbed at this difficult time. Mark Harmon stars.
